Sustainable development is, according to the Norwegian Prime Minister of 1987, Mrs Gro Harlem Brundtland, development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

For us, this definition means doing our best to make our hotel and our actions sustainable, to avoid as much pollution as possible and to ensure our children a healthier world. With the aim of improving the way in which natural and social resources are used, we are trying to implement some actions to prove that sustainable development and tourism can coexist, what becomes eco-tourism.

We get a positive impact with more active tourism, which contributes to environmental interests, sociocultural and fighting for environmental protection and conservation.

So every day we look for new ideas, and new projects to make our most sustainable hotel while respecting the comfort of our customers.

So we have a project to get the “CST” certification, which means « certification for tourism sustainability » and which aims to turn sustainable development in something concrete and necessary for the tourism industry in Costa Rica.

CST aims to improve the use of natural and social resources and to promote the participation of local communities.

Tasty ingredients & Soft bath products.

As much as possible we are promoting the purchase of products near you. A big part of our products are coming from local producers. Fish and lobsters that we are serving are caught by local fishermen.

Also, you can enjoy our bath products 100% from Costa Rica and 100% biodegradable, using resistant containers in order to be use multiple times. This realization doesn’t need of a transformation process of the products to save a lot of energy. It is a practice more ecologic, economic, clean and simple.

Access to quality education that can change lives and transform a country.

CREAR is a non-profit organization whose goal is to create and strengthen environmental and social awareness among students through community projects and educational activities, where the youth of Sámara can explore these educational interests through artistic initiatives and creative education, and in this way develop useful skills for the future and thus expand employment opportunities.

Crear is constantly improving for communities. The proximity of Playa Sámara and the surrounding areas makes it possible to reach many groups of people, which offers endless possibilities to continue to play a catalytic role towards a better future for all.

You also contribute to the improvement and evolution of local communities and help them achieve their goals!

More than just support the association CREAR, your donations are contributing also to efforts of preservation, research and environmental education of ASVO (Association of Volunteers for the Service of Protected areas). This local organization is working for the protection and the conservation of protected areas, beaches and communities of Costa Rica.

Especially with the station of conservation and protection of sea turtles of the Buenavista beach, located at 1km of our hotel. It is receiving regularly visit of local or international volunteers who participate to reforestation and the cleaning of wastes in green areas, rivers and coastlines.

Be a part of the adoption of baby turtles program, this is a program that has as a goal to collect funds for the financing of the association of protection of sea turtles. We are estimating that on 1000 turtles babies only one will reach to adulthood.

During the adoption you will obtain pictures of the baby turtle launch and a certificate of sponsorship from ASVO, A financial report on the money raised and its use.

Immersed in the forest, we are trying to keep things… natural..

We have replaced many conventional cleaning products by organic degradable products made from natural raw materials of green and organic origin and that don’t contain dangerous chemical products, that way it doesn’t ruin our ecosystem.

An action for the planet.

Water is a precious element that is getting more and rarer. Water consummation isn’t stopping to increase while available resources aren’t, or in danger of disappear. It is then very important to preserve freshwater, meaning of life.

Salvage water will be used as domestic uses like for the laundry. Then, the rain water recuperated doesn’t need to be drinkable. This ecologic action will permit to reduce drinkable water consummation.

In the same mind of reduction of water consummation, we have equipped all our toilets of reductive water consummation system.

Getting a “responsible garden”

We are taking care of our garden without using any chemical products. We are recycling our green wastes of the garden by using composting process. This is a process of transformation of organic wastes in a rich compost of high quality and 100% natural. It lighten the soil and permit fertilizer, compost and water savings. Composting permit to reduce the waste and to avoid transportation to clear them.

How our food will make your stay an unforgettable experience? The “garden products” are on the menu. 

We are promoting the local economic development and that’s why we are working with local farmers and fishermen, that assure us a remarkable freshness for each products, in order to concoct you a great cooking with seasonal ingredients.

In our garden, we also have fruit trees that, depending on the seasons, will brighten up your plates. The compost provided to our plants all the nutrients they need without any complements.

We are inviting you to visit our garden and discover a sample of the different varieties of plants thanks to descriptive signs placed at the base of the plants.

Natural and pure

The disinfection of water is assured by a system of electrolysis that is transforming the salt into natural chlorine without scent, and doesn’t irritate the skin and mucous membranes and that doesn’t create allergies. This principle rest on a perpetual cycle because the salt that was transformed into chlorine will re-transformed in salt and so on.

Giving a “second life” to our wastes.

We are separating and getting back our wastes depending of the nature. This has as a goal to give them a “second life”, mostly by reuse and recycling, as a result to reduce the ecologic imprint.

By separating, we are acting to:

-Limit the quantity of our household garbage and so the cost of their treatment.

-Preserving our environment and the one of our children by avoiding pollutions by limiting the filling from storage bay and by saving our natural resources (trees, petrol, sand…) whose quantities are limited on Earth.

An environmentally responsible action for the preservation of the environment.

For the preservation of the environment we are using biologic activators with natural origin ingredients, which assure an optimal working of our pits by activating the natural process of degradation, allowing a better clarification of wastewaters before the return into the environment thanks to the treatment package.

Organic substance are then damaged faster, the mud volume decrease and allow then to limit draining which represent a positive impact with the environment because there is less transportation toward the treatment center.

Reduce our environmental impact.

We set up a replacement program of our light bulbs by new technologies with great environmental performances.

Enhanced efficiency to produce light and a long life, so we reduce the number of bulbs and wasted energy.

Natural environment is a reserve on his own.

Ideally located, our hotel benefit of a rich natural environment. Occupied by indigenous trees and endemic plants, paths that are leading to beaches (Samara, Izquierda, Buenavista) near permit natural lane for the wildlife.

Leaving clean the environment is one of our commitments !

Twice a month, some members of our staff are volunteers to clean one of the principal roads that leads to the beach and to collect the wastes that rivers are deposing on beaches.

We are keeping in mind the nature conservation; we are restricting the cut of trees to a maintenance pruning and the upkeep of bush hedge on which we are preceding regularly our own taking cuttings, with the goal to get a future plantation.
